So you’re wondering what happened to the Race for Open Space!
With 92 running events in the Roanoke region over the summer, we felt the squeeze in terms of attendees. Runners are being more selective with which races they participate in.
Instead of giving up on the race altogether, we decided to transform the Race for Open Space into a fun run and family fun event. Our goal is to be an organization which protects the region we live in, but also provides opportunities for the public to enjoy that region. We now have a fun and casual walk/run for young families to take part in!
Along those lines we also started our Outdoor Adventures Series which started in May. We have guided hikes, stream school days, and more lined up through October. Check out our calendar! Many of these events are on conserved properties- the very places we protect! It’s a great opportunity to see parts of the region which aren’t usually open to the public.
