EMILY BENDER, Assistant Director

Emily has been with Land Savers since December 2021 and has a background in land conservation having worked in the Shenandoah Valley prior to joining the LSU team! Her love of the outdoors started at a young age and was fostered growing up in Roanoke and spending summers at Camp Bethel (Fincastle, VA). This shaped her love of the outdoors and determined her educational path. She also enjoyed exploring and learning about the landscapes of Australia during a semester abroad, in Richmond, NSW. Emily holds a Bachelor's of Science from Bridgewater College.

In her free time, Emily can be found taking care of her large house plant collection, doing yoga, crafting, reading or spending time outside. She also enjoys hosting game nights with her close friends and husband, Jeremy. Emily and Jeremy currently live in Roanoke with their two pet rabbits - Jett and Charolette.

TINA BADGER, Project Manager

Tina came to Blue Ridge Land Conservancy in 2017 as office manager and currently works as project manager. Tina has a bachelor’s degree in Religion and Classical Studies from Hollins University but has a passion for the outdoors and environmental conservation. She currently lives in Montgomery County, where she raises a small herd of dairy goats and a flock of chickens, along with her husband and two cats. When not dealing with the nitty-gritty details of non-profit work or fixing fences, she can be found outside identifying insects, birds, plants, or enjoying a horror movie with a cat on her lap.

KACIE AMSTUTZ, Stewardship Manager

Kacie has been the Stewardship Manager for Blue Ridge Land Conservancy since 2022, where she combines a strong science background with a passion for protecting Virginia’s landscapes. She has a degree in Biology from Hollins University, has completed multiple GIS certifications, is wilderness first aid certified, and is licensed to pilot drones. Outside of the office, you’ll often find Kacie exploring the outdoors through hiking and paddle boarding, or unwinding with a good book. She calls Roanoke home, where she and her husband share life’s adventures with their two dogs and two cats.

"We abuse land because we see it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.”
